Decoupage scrapbooking paper and family photos on ceramic tiles

This is such a great gift and a very in-expensive gift but a gift that is extremely meaningful and will be a memorable gift for years to come. Items needed: 1 .Mod Podge (Walmart-Yellow and Orange bottle-Matte finish) 2. Foam brushes (Walmart-same aisle as Modge Podge) 3. 5 1/2 inch tile from Lowes or Home Depot (Each tile runs about .70 cents)-get several these are fun to make 4. 4×6 Picture (use an original copy–printed copies from computer will not work) Never use your original or only copy. Make a couple of copies of your 4×6 to have on hand 5. Scrapbook paper of your choice. Mix and match the design of your paper-It adds a better look to your final look. Remember you only need a small amount of scrapbook paper. Your picture will cover up most of the scrapbook paper. The paper is only there for a small affect 6. Paper cutter to cut down scrapbook paper and picture. If you don’t have one just use scissors 7. Wax paper to put your tile on 8. Ribbon if you would like to add to your finished product 9. Glue gun or fabric glue to add to the back of your tile. Bring two pieces around and tie a bow in front. I used wired ribbon. It works the best. 10. Remember once you put Modpodge over your entire tile you will not be able to see ANY of your scrapbook paper or your picture. That is okay. It will dry clear. Do not worry about putting too much. 11. Smooth out all paper as you go lightly with your finger. 12. Have fun…enjoy this project…and…If you have questions please

do you have to use actual photos or can it be the kind that you just print from the computer on regular paper?

  6. kaboom989 says:

YES!! You will definetely need to use the actual photo. So make sure you have a duplicate of the picture just in case…If you use a print out the ink colors smear and run..It just doesn’t turn out..Good luck and let me know how your project comes out. I bet it will look GREAT!!!!

This is nice. If you add a piece of felt or flock the back…I think it would be even better.

do i have to glue it with modpodge? or can i just coat my paper surface with it and use craft glue to glue the paper to the tile? will it still have the same effect?

This us a terrific idea… Funny, I found a big box of discarded tiles on trash day and took them home, hoping I’d be able to re-purpose them somehow. This will be perfect! There are many types of Mod Podge. Does it make a difference which one we use?

@tintin1887 There is this new thing out (new to me anyway) … it’s called “Creative Imaginations Super Seal Acrylic Sealant Spray” and it’s good for paper projects, it even advertises as good for inkjet prints- so maybe if you got something like that and lightly sprayed the printer photo’s then they would be just find to work with for decoupage.

I have done similar projects with photos and modge podge… but I made color photo copies of the pictures! I decoupaged them onto wood and they turned out fine, no smearing… I’d think modge podge would smear inkjet printer ink.

Is the mod podge/ decoupage water resistant? I made photo drink coasters and I’m wondering if I should also put something else over it. I heard furniture polish will protect them but i’m scared they will affect the color of my pictures. What do you think??

Hi! Im an interior designer. I like your concept. And I was thinking how about making a decoupage on a plywood backing instead of tiles, lets say 2×8 feet, then it will be fixed on a wall (landscape orientation) that will serve as a wall accent for a room. And then sealed with maybe layers of varnish or water-based polyurethane to be water-proof. What do you think? I like to make your concept on a rather larger scale.
